Certainly with you on a lot of comments and I am also gen x.
Just a comment in regards to your previous boss I have to say it sounds like he had a go and put his balls on the line and unfortunately the generations after us are struggling with that have a go mentality as while we grew up with pretty much nothing we gave them pretty much everything they wanted so they would rather whinge now than have a go.
