So call me glass half full, but I already have future plans in place to deal with my CAN capital loss in as tax-effective way as possible! If I am being chucked down the stairs, might as well land on a matress!

You can sell now and carry your losses over to the next year. The loss doesn't have to be in the same year as the capital gain. Basic tax stuff imho.
