Stockholm Syndrome? IMO, that's what is happening, and that's what typically happens. The original story has changed multiple times and the share price is at a five year low, yet people are just going along with it because they fell in love with the original story and never had a clear exit strategy. FWIW, my motto is if the story changes, I exit.

Both investors and directors in a company might lack objectivity when evaluating the story. For example, a common occurence with takeovers and mergers is that once a company has started in that direction, the directors fear backing out as new information appears. It is human nature to avoid losing face. Therefore, the story that the investors are given could be about the original plan, not the current reality; or it could be the current reality, not the original plan. Are investors objective enough to decern that actual situation rather than just relying on the supplied story?

A newbie arriving would normally just wait and watch before investing. Those who have been onboard the boat for ages are just blown about by the wind.
