Virginia Rometty (IBM "Chairperson", President and CEO) and Martin Schroeter (Senior VP, etc) were in Australia a week or two ago.
It can be noted that the timing of Linius's NBL deal follows immediately after the visit to Australia of Virginia and Martin. Perhaps that is just a coincidence. The NBL deal seems too small for Virginia and Martin, unless of course, it were a beta roll-out or preliminary deal for a larger deal in the US. Australia is often a testing or proving ground for what is planned to be rolled out in the US. This comment is, however, speculation.
But, whilst in Australia Martin made a germane comment about personalised TV channels - also in the context of Watson - and which perfectly describes what Linius does. Martin described the creation of individual customer generated TV channels as "phenomenal" specifically in relation to their potential deployment at Wimbledon and The Masters. But, again, there is as yet no public announcement in relation to this of a connection between IBM and Linius.
From your comment is would seem that IBM could provide the SSAI capability (NBL and potential future basketball deployments, which would presumably be in the US). In return, Linius could provide the personalised TV channel capability.
Finally, and for completeness, as of May 2019 Linius was still in discussions with Warner Brothers and the broader AT&T group. AT&T owns ESPN, for which all of the above applications are relevant. And to top it off, this could all be rolled into IBM Aspera's new blockchain offering to provide optimal security (anti-piracy), personalised TV channels, and newly established framework that directly connects IBM and Linius.
