Even a pro bono action is unlikely to get you back anything worth the risk of causing the takeover to fail.
A CA will only cover purchases covering specific dates, if you bought the majority of your shares outside the window it is likely not to be worthwhile. The window IMO is likely to be after the interim release to suspension.
Personally I don't think the losses incurred will be sufficient to incentivise a legal backer, PNC was not a highly traded share.
