maybe it has been mentioned elsewhere .. so please forgive ...

mmm trees - - they are a wonderful carbon sink - until of course they catch fire and burn .. and POOF - all the captured carbon is released back into the atmosphere .

if the trees die - eventually the roots disappear - eaten by white ants, or other microbe type stuff - and all the captured carbon in the roots eventually goes back into the atmosphere.

one wonders how much carbon has been released by the present lot of bushfires ???.

presumably the trees will grow again and absorb he carbon again .. but what about all the trees cleared for urban development??..

where watso lives - it could be that his house (excluding the surrounding land) originally was the ground for about 20 banksia trees.. one thing for sure is that there will never be 20 banksia trees again on that bit ground again
