People move into nursing homes for two reasons - immobility or dementia. No one WANTS to move there, but unfortunately a lot of us are destined for them, at least if a quick death does not intervene. Furthermore, access to high level residential care is determined by aged care assessment teams (in WA), or similar community services, not by what the patient/client "wants".
Polling people on whether they want to end up in a nursing home is like asking people if they'd like the velour or velvet trim on their coffins - people hate being confronted with their own mortality.
