And really that is the big lie in the evolution/ creation debate.
One side tries to paint itself as a science v belief debate, but in actual fact it is a debate about two competing belief systems.
Both sides have the same facts, but both try to interpret these facts into their own preconceived belief systems.
Evolutionists believe that life spontaneously generated from inorganic matter (don't know how this happened)and then proceeds by a serious of random copying mistakes to add all the complex features we see today. How it does this depends on which branch of evolution you believe, the gradualists or the step (punctuated equilibrium) model but the fossil record does not help. It is assumed that evolution has occurred and that all that is required is to explain by which model, notwithstanding the lack of facts.
Creationists on the other hand believe the bible to be history in space and time and that the creation is a seperate creation from God, rather than a mere extension of god's essence as some would propose on this board. It then goes on to attribute the fossil record to the history as recorded in the bible and that it can be best explained by creation, sin and a world wide flood.
But what is critical, each side starts with their own pre-existing views and tries to interpret the facts in line with it. Both sides are merely beliefs and then use science to try to verify their position, hence the reason why the deabte will never be resolved.
Hence why no proof for or against God can be offered from this debate, only what you believe.
Those who do not believe in god, cannot accept the creationist position, because if God does not exists then he clearly cannot create, so the only option is natural processes.
For creationists, it does not matter if the earth is 6,000, 4 billion or 4 trillion years old, the simple fact is that life cannot come into existence of its own accord and therefore must be designed. if designed, then it is logical for the creator to reveal himself to his creation, and is the Bible the means for this.
