Hi Dr.Who. Search the words 'sun cable' and this might give you an idea of the not too distant future, have a research of what length power feeds are in the world already. Also read up on what size battery they are planning for the system too !
Now think of a future where a solar farm in NT/WA/SA Timezone is powering the early evening peak load time of QLD/NSW/VIC, interesting thoughts.
Several companies also using solar/wind to pump water higher up for later hydro use etc. The future is going to be a combination of many types of electricity generation.
