Thanks Future, I'm vaguely aware of the Aus - Singapore cable from just skim reading headlines.

I was under the impression that solar/wind/hydro is only good for a backup - a small contribution the total energy need. And that charging EV will cause a massive increase in demand for power.

The 'big' battery part is easy for me to contemplate. It is getting power into the battery that I find puzzling.

I admit to knowing little about the technicalities. I will do more reading - if you (or anyone) can point me in the direction of additional solid research into the capabilities of solar/hydro/wind I would appreciate it [written in laymans terms].

The Sun Cable is an exciting prospect, I wonder why all the resources known to man are not already pouring into projects such as this around the globe. The sun is an unlimited source if we can tap it economically.
