Dragon, Bear, rabbit, dingo etc traps have steel jaws that snap shut around the animals leg when stepped on. The trap has a chain that leads to a stake secured into the ground so the animal can't hobble off with its leg still in the trap. Don't know how this blokes family jewels were not instantly removed but it is the humor forum and it would have ruined the story so once the trap sprang shut around said anatomy it would have hurt (a lot) and the instinct would be to flee. His already extremely painful situation would have been vastly amplified when the staked chain ran out of slack.
