The fact of the matter is that Iran is in the USG crosshairs simply because it is the enemy of Israel and the Saudis. The US, Israel and Saudi supported ISIS as their proxy army in Syria, hence the demonization of both Russia and Iran for their efforts in frustrating their plan to oust Assad.
