Your exact example focuses on the incorrect and emotive area whilst ignoring that the tax actually addesses the one aspect of life that we cannot manipulate and avoid - that we spend according to our wealth and income. The high wealth and high earners spend not only on food but on travel, toys like cars furniture etc. You ca obly avoid expenditure by saving . In addition as you are excluding the wealthy and high earners from using medical services without it being charged to their medical insurance you are excluding the huge rort that is implied in the medical system where the people entering a government hospital actively are allowed to access that service without declaring their health insurance. The welfare system already redistributes expenss and provids cash contributions to those less well off. We have to get away from the idea that you can have a fit and able bodied person who does not contribute to society. I dont have an issue if you volunteer but you should never be allowed to just live in a cash in hand society andcalso get cash credits from the tax system. The view that the tax authorities are fair game is a theft against all of us. Look to how efficient a rax system is - even if you earn cash in hand or evade ir avoid tax GST is still collected as you have to consume...
