The Department of Home Affairs is in charge of responding to national emergencies and natural disasters. They closed down and sent their staff home.
As their Minister Peter Dutton has disappeared for weeks, a slightly bewildered spokesman popped up to declare:
"We are looking into procuring air purifiers for key sites."
Months into a disaster. And they're starting to think about doing something. For themselves, so they can breathe through a natural disaster that they should be responding to. Haven't made a decision yet, still thinking. So they've just gone home to watch the cricket while the country burns.
Honestly. It's a miracle they can get dressed in the morning and feed themselves with that attitude.
