Australia is just too expensive for many local people to holiday...plus lousy service to boot.

Try staying for a week on Hamilton island and see how much change you get out of $5k with air fares.

It will cost you far less to fly to a nice Asian resort destination with pretty good service to boot.

I reckon Australia is now rivaling Singapore as far as expense goes...I spent Christmas in Singapore, three of us went out for dinner most nights and the average bill was around AUD230.00...at very good Restaurants. The bill for our 3 course dinner for three at Marco Pierre White's "The English House" with 3 glasses of wine came to just over AUD200.00.
And Taxis are cheap as chips over there so to take a cab doesn't cost an arm and a leg on top of the meal costs as it does here!

While in Singapore I looked at the price of wine as it is more expensive in Asian countries. ...A 2018 Petaluma Reisling I had delivered to the table in an upmarket Restaurant at Dempsey Road for AUD74.00. In Brisbane it is quite common to pay even up to $85.00 for the same bottle in a restaurant here. The average price at a bottle shop here varies between $38.00 and $42.00.

Last weekend we went to a pretty basic local Italian Restaurant at Sunrise Beach near Noosa and I paid $200.00 for 3 meals with 4 glasses of house wine.

I don't spend much here on holiday as there is little value for money and the service is generally pretty poor...I usually go overseas.
