I agree, boatboy. You're paying too much.

Have you been to McLaren Vale in SA? That's where the really interesting stuff is now. If you find the right place then half the time you're at a table next to French winemakers or Europeans who know good food and wine at a decent price and have travelled halfway across the globe to get it.

Simply fly in to Adelaide and stay on North Terrace. Maybe catch a show by walking to the Festival Centre. Hire a car for the morning. Then I'd recommend starting off the day at Adelaide Biplanes. Watch vintage planes take off and land about 100 metres away at a quaint aeroclub cafe, or go up yourself for about $300. Take your pick. Tiger Moth, Waco, Great Lakes biplanes, Boeing Stearmans etc.

Then hit the wineries, in particular the D'Arenberg Cube. Have a degustation that will knock your socks off, listen to jazz, see Surrealist sculpture and go through an art installation whilst in the middle of the bush. Sample ridiculously good world class wine at a special tasting for a pittance.
