Not all sea-change towns are expensive. For example, Hervey Bay has plenty of modern 4 bed homes available for around 300K, 1k/m-2k/m from the beach.
With direct flights to and from Sydney, and soon to be Melbourne, as well as all the other developments going on such as the $300 million Marina upgrade the town is going from strenght to strength.
ABS is forecasting Hervey Bay to grow from its current population of 55,000 to over 100,000 in the next 10-15 years.
OK, 300K may still be a lot if you hav'nt got it, but trying buying a similar home near the beach in Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane for that price.
And the latest data indicates prices have fallen slightly over the last quarter, so it may be good time to consider buying there.
