Grylls, the Nats' leader is the kingmaker. Past history says that the Nats will side with the Libs but Grylls has consistently maintained that his party sees Royalties for Regions as the key to the palace.

I posted this on the uranium thread but it has relevance here as well.

It will be an interesting test of the independence of the Nats to see which way they jump. Barnett would be unwise to think he can take their support for granted. Carpenter has nothing left to lose and is likely to be generous in his offers to the Nats.

I submit to the WA Labor staffer monitoring this site, that Carps make a public offer to the Nats tomorrow, endorsing Royalties for Regions with the caveat that Commonwealth support would need to be forthcoming. This gives both WA Labor and the Nats someone else to blame.

If he seriously wants a chance to stay as Premier, Carps should also publicly open the door on negotiations to overturn his blinkered anti uranium mining stance. Federal Labor has done it, SA Labor encourages it and NT Labor doesn't have a choice.

My question to you, Labor Staffer person is, how serious is your boss about wanting to stay on as Premier? Right now his job is one the line and he needs you to help him focus on the job rather than his splendid superannuation. with the caveat that Commonwealth support would need to be forthcoming.
