As a professional fisherman many people see me as a rapist of the ocean, plundering, destroying and killing everything that comes within reach (especially when I’m operating my beach netting license).
I have been lectured and abused by perfect strangers who profess to be Green? I explain to them I’m more Green than them as I load dead fish onto ice
They don’t seem to understand the concept of a Primary Producer, we may not have dreadlocks, hemp clothes and smell like we need a good wash but we do have a strong connection to the water, land and weather/climate that most don’t. We look after our bits as opposed to the perception that we are Vandals, we need a healthy system so we can continue to fish. Self interest is the best driver for proactive environmentalism!
