you cannot compare flares with any other chalk formation other than a formation identical in all respects.. and in terms of chalks there is only the east texas chalks that are similar and the sugarkane field a few miles west that are identical

gas flares are extremely encouraging, to have the well in a state where you dont want a blow out, and to have it drill ahead without damaging the formation is critical.

flaring, or blow outs, is not ideally what you want, but you are doing everything you can to not have the well lose circulation, which has been the major issue in these wells.. and they have been losing circulation and also losing laterals in the past due to these sorts of issues..

doesnt matter what the size of the flare is, you really dont know what you have until you complete the hole, clean it up and then wireline and test it.. but i have not seen any well that has flared in the sugarkane not becomea producer..

there has not been a successful open hole completion yet (besides perhaps the baker 2 well) if the TCEI guys keep this going and get it happening to completion, then i will be extremely pleased, and the chalks have such high porosity that they flow without natural fractures in any case, as seen in the case of the conocophillips kunde 1 vertical discovery well..

imho its absolutely brilliant news..
