Fair question.
Every transaction wether a purchase or a sale is a contract. I treat every trade the same way as buying a house costs and CGT and my records are as if it was. I keep meticulous records.
If you are using a trading platform to manage your shares and use their tax reporting structure its likely a first in first out structure. It tends to make you hold your shares and not trade.
The share contracts i sold today made money, and i wont get any CGT discount.
My longterm holding stayed the same, but my overall average Share price rose of course.
