You are correct but, as far as I understand, coal effectively pays Australia’s welfare bill. If Australia stopped coal mining we’d suffer a massive drop in income. Centrelink would have to shut up shop and close the front doors. Of course, the unemployed protesters and single mums don’t consider this while they’re glueing themselves to footpaths and lying in front of trains.
