I went to Telstra first. They are only interested in selling new phones. No advantages for being a telephone/broadband user. They could not give me a clear answer about the expiry of a simms card.
Went to Vodaphone. No problems. $0.05 fee plus 20 bucks for a simms card which lasts one year. Could keep my trusted mobile. Could keep my number. It all works just as before. Saves me the monthly fee as I don't use the phone much at all.
