You can make your toaster IP addressable if you want to. A standard microprocessor can be coded to be an embedded IP interface, TZ are designing their own to add some functionality (which is good). IP addressable actuators already exist in Access Control Systems, industrial automation, and other applications. When TZ start getting a foothold in this market and potential competitors cannot copy their patented SMA technology they will try to replicate as many of the functionalities as possible but using alternate actuators (magnets, motors etc). Then they will try to win on price. This is where TZ will have an advantage, they should be able to also produce their product for a lower price in high volume.
