Government wants to tighten the siege on drivers of other drug users
Publicado em 15.09.2008, às 21h20 Published on 15.09.2008, at 21h20

The Minister of Health, Jose Gomes Temporão, argued in this Monday (15), the restriction of CNH for users of drugs and psychotropic medicines so-called 'black stripe'. Statements of Temporăo are aligned with the ideas advocated previously by the Minister for Cities, Márcio Fortes.

""Although there is a text ready, but we are getting demands in this area," he said.
"We need to study how the regulations would be (the restriction for users of illicit drugs and therapies), is by a specific law or by adjustments in the legislation."

The challenge, admits the minister, as would be the supervision of the new standard of transit, since currently there are no equipment capable of measuring the strength of drug use.Preliminary data released today (15), based on a study conducted by the National Secretariat of Policies on Drugs (Senad), revealed that 1.5% of drivers who travel on roads in the vicinity of five federal capital (Porto Alegre, Florianopolis, Joao Pessoa , Cuiaba and Maceio) used marijuana and cocaine moments before driving.

Among 563 drivers addressed in federal highways, about 2% of them used marijuana - and 1.5% had used cocaine."We had some surprises, such as the fact of bus drivers are the group that made more use of marijuana (2.4% of covered)," says researcher Raquel Deboni, one of the coordinators of the survey.

The full study on federal highways coming from 26 capitals and the Federal District, according to Senad, will be finalized by March 2009.
