Big electricity users such as refiners and coal miners using drag lines negotiate favourable prices for their power but there are two things to consider: They buy HV power at their leases fence so there are no retail distribution costs and they are the first to be disconnected.
Pinto doesn't understand this but there IS an advantage for the grid having these users. Their demand allows baseload generators to stay on line. Without them the boilers would be cold. If a gen-set trips or the wind drops, disconnecting big users can provide power to a lot of retail users in the time it takes to do the switching. If there were no one to disconnect the retail market goes into load shedding.
