I think the Brits have been considering that this might happen for some time - they don't think like the Yanks - more to do with short selling and investor confidence?
Albeit HBOS have not an immediate liquidity issue they do have a considerable exposure to Alt-A loans and therefore in the future could be in jeopardy and market is anticipating this?
