You don't need it because of the virus. Its going up because of monetary policy decisions to prop up an underlying unhealthy, debt ridden and deteriorating global economy. Gold might be getting a safe haven bid as a result of the uncertainty around the virus, but it was going up anyway and will continue to regardless of what happens with coronavirus
