Just for some fun, thought about the value for the resource base
OZ Minerals Resources
Zinc (Kt) 17,807.6 10c/lb ~3.74B
Copper (Kt) 4,815.7 25c/lb ~2.64B
Gold (Moz) 16.0 $50/oz ~0.80B
Silver (Moz) 407.8 50c/oz ~0.20B
Nickel (Kt) 792.0 50c/lb ~0.87B
Lead (Kt) 2,599.1 10c/lb ~0.57B
Cobalt (Kt) 47.0 $1/lb ~0.10B
I think the value I've used is conservative for most of these metals.
Values that resources in the ground at $8.88Billion
Some of the gold company takeovers were at between $100-150/resource ounce.
I'd be interesting to see what Freeport paid for Phelps Dodge on a resource tonne. I think it would have been over 50c a tonne and closer to $1.
If you give zinc no value at all, and apply the above prices to copper and gold, thats nearly $7billion or about $2.20 a share.
