A relatively recent discovery about the brain of a psychopath has revealed something which responds very differently to a particular stimulus than do people with normal brains. An MRI will reveal this. At last. People now know that this condition is "real" because it can be measured. Shouldn't we fell grateful that we don't suffer from this serious borderline personality disorder which cannot be treated with medication, which cannot be remedied, even if discovered when the person is young, by behavioural therapy. It is, thus, one of the most difficult of personalities ever and no reason, no logic, no therapies, can shift the thinking and behaviour of a person suffering from this disorder.

I confess that my church going behaviour began and then continued when I came across a senior person in the church who was, finally, acknowledged to be a psychopath. In the meantime, the behaviour was at times funny, at other times, absurd, sometimes cruel, sometimes beyond belief, sometimes seriously harmful and it was never able to be modified. It intrigued me. It sent me off to the library to research this further. This was not Ivan Milat kind of murderous behaviour.

Women who are psychopaths can cause huge pain to their male partners, who may spend a life time trying to conform to the demands of this woman. They can be extraordinarily devious and destructive. In this case, it seriously began to make members of the congregation unwell, some simply left (I was wanting to do exactly that, but was too curious and wanted to learn how this would all pan out), split people who were once friends, and finally the couple divorced.

Do I feel sorry for the person involved? To be honest, very hard for me to do so. However, there is something happening in her brain which is making this anti-social behaviour occur and it will never be fixed. But to befriend her? No thanks. I don't have that good a nature, that is for sure.........it would just screw my brain.

Maybe we all need a psychological test before permitted to take on a partner and it would have saved us much pain. Ask who the parents were. Ask how many partners this prospective partner has had in the past, etc. I have always been this kind of cautious, myself.
