    Companies which have a need for the capital don't pay dividends. It's why major corporations outside Australia don't pay regular dividends. They use the money to grow or in this case recover. Australians are only used to dividends because Australian companies are hopeless... they have no idea how to grow and expand their business. So they return it each year to shareholders. It's the main reason high yield stocks are in many cases stagnant businesses with little growth prospects... i.e. the banks.
