If they have a track record of short selling, it wouldn’t make sense for them to buy the stock - profits from shorting require borrowing the stock, selling it high and then buying it back cheaper before returning the stock to it’s original owner.
Unless they have a track record of lending stock to others for the purpose of short selling, which of course might indicate that they could do this with those 5 million shares.
