From the planet's point of view, it could be much better to convert natural gas to hydrogen at the point of production.
Methane is a very nasty GHG, and fugitive emissions occur along the entire production and distribution chain. Conversion at the point of production would eliminate downstream fugitive methane emissions. In addition, transporting hydrogen as ammonia (a liquid at room temperature and pressure) should be much cheaper and less energy intensive than liquefying natural gas for shipment.
