If you want to test housing affordability on an individual basis just go to one of the banks serviceability calculators. It will tell you exactly if you qualify for a loan, ie if the banks think you can afford it.
Plus lenders mortgage insurers are currently making changes to their products and availability, so we are heading to the European model that needs a borrower to bring at least 20% deposit to the table.
Those aspects together will make it very hard for a lot of people to enter the market at some of the avg wages posted here.
