Having just had first hand experience in finding a rental, I was actually quite amazed in the overall ease of successfully finding a place. No it's not in Sydney, but in Adelaide( published similar vacancy rates???).
After reading various posts on this forum and news articles etc over time I had been fearing the whole process. I began searching probably a month too early and now have the problem of finding a place to good to refuse and a month overlap between existing places.
We were also a little worried about the selection process as we have been traveling for the last 3 years and have no current previous housing references.
The place we got is located in Nth Adelaide, detached 2br, secure off street parking, prime location and small garden at $295 p/w. bargain!!!!!
After talking to the agent, who has been in the industry for 50 years, and works for a family business that has been operating since 1866, yes 1866, in Adelaide she thought the current stats going around din't accurately represent the market at present. She also informed us she only had six walk throughs and only 2 applications. I'm not sure whether we got lucky or there is something seriously wrong with the place-any thoughts????
