    Pelm1,

Seems once again there is confusion about contaminants, on the forum!!

It involves beneficiation techniques & i'll keep it simple here for the average reader out there.

As long as the grade of FE % isn't compromised & is within a set threshold ranging from 50-55%, 55-60% & 60+%, mining is deemed feasible. Thats how a decisions are made. Now as for the contaminants, u've probably heard Kev's talk or on the weekly updates, Si, Al & P get mentioned besides FE. These are post XRF analysis from the labs & are easy to get rid off as SLAG during benefication.

The beneficiation process is quite simple, they use limestone (CaCo3) or dolomite (CaMgCO3) as FLUX agent, limestone is very cheap. At 2000 degrees C temperature, the Ca from the Lstone combines with the AL, Si & P to give different slag products which have are less dense then molten iron & float above it & are discarded as slag as either CaSiO3, Ca-Phosphate, CaAlSiO3. This by-products finds its use in the fertiliser industry (Ca-phosphate i.e.) or road/highway building material.

As long as Fe doesn't drop below 50 or whatever the tolerance level is, FMS have a decent block with substantian Fe reserves.

    cheers
