Human beings are idiots. Meanwhile insect populations have been absolutely decimated, which actually is quite dire. No insects, no way of feeding nearly 8 billion people. People do not know or care. I partly blame the media, the headlines are blaring this shite everywhere and the herds are just munching it down.

If people want something to panic about...
These figures are actually conservative owing to the fact that they are just measuring in the past decade. I read an article which said that in some places insect populations as a whole are down around 80% since the end of the 19th century. A dude in 1870s was already writing about the collapse of butterfly populations in a place he studied.
