"Europe will be the same. China's export economy will slide dramatically but the internal economy will build."
A global downturn might be just what China needs to sustain their growth plans. Would it be better for them to pay over inflated prices for resources in a booming economy, or depressed prices in a recessionary environment? I have to wonder if their infrastructure plans are better suited to the latter.
"Oz Minerals directors will be taken out and publicly hung for buying ZFX at the top of the market and then, essentially, shutting the mine 3 months later."
Zinc is one of the few metals with a positive forecast going into 2010, I don't think it's all that bad. Consider MGX has gone down as much as OZL since the merger, even though it mines what is still a premium price commodity, iron ore. Isn't this because iron ore is expected to go into oversupply? I don't think the same can be said for zinc - however depending on the severity of the downturn, potentially everything will be in oversupply.
