I very much agree with you hippo 567 although its concerning that they went so deep without more indicators. Its the reason for the gravity anomally that they are looking for and not to be with hole 1. I think they were into the basement by a good margin but the announcement didn't clarify that. As Mokeman mentioned, it was a well planned shot with the best intentions and the best science behind it. Very often at these depths they miss the target. I'm hopeful they will intercept the dense body in the next 2 holes hopefully at a shallower depth.
