When/if this is all done and dusted, then completed cases give an accurate number because all cases will be completed. This is semantic, but the true mortality rate accounts for the entire population. Currently, the entire population includes deaths, recovered and not recovered/not dead. It is not accurate to state that the mortality rate is x as a comparison of deaths vs recovery when there are ~50% of cases with unknown outcome. Again, sure it can be helpful to look at current rates of death vs recovery, but that is not the true mortality rate (unless all known cases are completed). I've said it is misleading because ultimately those of unknown outcome could all recover, or all die, and this would wildly change what you have defined as the mortality rate.
