Could hazard a guess and happy to be corrected but there are 2 x 2 possible combinations of candles: depending on whether the close was greater than the open for that candle, and whether the close was greater than the previous candle close. Or perhaps it's volume/annc related? Keen to know as well because I'm using Macq and they also have different coloured candles (similar to what you have explained) and never really investigated myself.
