Food demand generally is very resiliant to affordability, however various types of food are more expensive than others, particularly meat.

I agree with hink regarding people being able to afford to eat meat, as it requires much more fertiliser to produce the grain to feed a cow, than it does to produce a cow's weight in grain for human consumption.

Therefore decreasing wealth in the population would see less meat being eaten, and a commensurate decline in fertiliser use for food production.

Biofuels are a different matter, as the price of oil may remain high (I'm talking around the $100/barrel level) - therefore it would be economical for biofuel producers to keep producing.
