"Seriously a document detailing what preventive measures are in place should be enough to calm the market."
Mate, the way the market is going at the moment, I doubt any document will alleviate any pain. I'm lurking around this forum because I am looking at businesses which are potentially most exposed to the virus so I am keeping an eye on GEM in the hope of picking up a bargain. All i am trying to say is that GEM is at the mercy of the virus and what the government or media report. Apart from a press release stating they are taking all precautions hygiene/health wise, I am not sure what more they can report to alleviate an anxiety that is out there.
I'm currently going through as much news as i can possibly get a hold of of how the markets reacted and recovered through previous viruses eg. SARS, Swine flu etc.
I've been through enough of these "end of the world" scenarios to know not to panic and that fear or irrationality creates buying opportunities. This virus doesn't look like it is going to be contained very easily so one could expect more pain to come, especially with businesses exposed to the virus. But, I take confidence in knowing that the best medics in the world are working on finding ways to combat the virus and that as per usual, within time, we will look back and think how we missed a great buying opportunity or lament how we let fear and emotion get the best of us and sold when we shouldn't have.
@alyoyo , try not to panic or worry too much mate. I've panicked with the best of them over the decades. Unless you are heavily geared and fear getting called, just get away from looking at the market and take confidence in knowing that time will take care of things., I think I've regathered a few of the years I lost in stress in previous market disasters by just forgetting about these emotional times and focusing on other things in life. And, by using these opportunities, if you can, by buying with whatever little cash you have available. Good luck to holders. I hate seeing this happen to people, but remember that 1. Time can take care of these problems 2. It's only bloody money - you can always earn more but if your health is taken away from you, you would give up all the money in the world to get it back.
