Plough, a major reason for Iran not being able to deal with Corona is due to extremely heavy sanctions by the US which severely impacts their whole health system. sanctions due to Trump ditching the JCPOA despite all other signatories wanting it to continue after years of negotiations to get it in place.
You dont understand how China did so well in containing coronavirus? That's not surprising as anti chinese sentiment has been near an all time high over the past few years. It is also why most peoole don't understand how their GDP has gone from next to nothing just a few decades ago to being the biggest in the world by PPP and second biggest overall as GDP. And as for 'belated response' - i disagree. When would have you expected a major response like we saw from China? After a single infection or death? Many in the west love to throw stones at China. However we are about to watch western governments attempt to combat corona virus with much more money per capita in GDP - multiples of china's and a much much smaller population - should be easy right? Look at South Korea. Huge GDP per capita... however they are well over 6000 cases now... population of 50M... china's population is 30x the size... this would be 180 000 cases in china if they infected at the same rate. Italy a similar story... and still in the early stages of infection.
We are about see capitalist countries fail to contain coronavirus as well as china despite china's massive population and gdp of roughly $10k per capita. China has more hospital beds per 1000 people than Australia and close to double that of the US and UK. Not including the extra hospital they built with 1000 beds in a few days... I can't see Australia coping if it gets severe here. My wife needed an operation just two weeks ago and we could only get a bed in private (luckily we have private insurance).
Germany has a far better health system than the UK. The NHS used to be a stand out... but over years this has diminshed considerably. Germany has almost four times as many hospital beds than the UK per capita.
Italy is not surprising considering where their health system is at.
These capitalist countries have an inherent problem when helping its people with their health - everything needs to be for profit... and since that has been entrenched for a long time the health system cannot support these extra cases because it's not profitable to have X more beds available just in case... and not to mention the general education of the average person - social media says we need to stock up on toilet paper FFS.
