Swine flu, MERS and SARS have not been global pandemics in the same way this already is. That should be pretty clear to even you by now. None of these diseases had the combination of significant mortality rate and being highly infectious (swine flu more infectious to my knowledge, but less deadly).

In any event, as I said before, even if the illness were harmless, everyone is spooked now and this will have a big impact economically on sectors including travel, education, and as we see this morning oil.
