    bj789,

Unlike us, the majority of the Chinese are still poor and have little education, but the Chinese government is raising the average standard of living at an almost unbelievable pace. Many of the smarter kids get an opportunity to move to the big population centres and attend university and they are the people who are fuelling this economic expansion. These kids will obviously bring with them some of the old traditions but they eagerly embrace the modern world. They earn good salaries and send some money back to their families which helps raise the standard of living out there. The standard of living is also raised by building more factories in the remote areas. Those factories usually produce lower tech items, especially anything which has a lot of manual operations, so those workers receive lower salaries but the cost of living is also lower in those areas.

The living standards are slowly rising but you and others seem to be expecting the government to wave a magic wand which suddenly brings the whole population up to our standards which have taken several generations to create. Obviously that won't happen but whatever we think of their system of government (our minds are controlled by our media) I can assure you that there is no other system that could have achieved what they have in such a short period of time.

In case anyone is waiting for this virus to bring them down, that won't happen. They will learn from it and bounce back. It's only a question of how long it takes. Now it's our turn with the virus so let's see how we handle it, remembering that we have the advantage of seeing what worked or didn't work when it hit them so unexpectedly.
