The frost here has taken at least 30% of my wheat, canola and barley seem ok.

The Cunderdin/Meckering area is very somber atm individual reports of up to 90% of cereals gone. My friend down the road is in that catagory he will not harvest cereals at all.

I believe this frost event will be known as the biggest ever. It is extensive and has shown no boundaries, crops on top of hills and on heavier country are frosted. Variety type seems irrelevant!

What is frustrating for me is this outdated moritorium on GM production. I have just seen GM canola in Vic, those hybrids are amazing and coupled with near perfect weed control makes me very envious. The frost tolerant gene is ready to go, I understand not one ton of GM wheat has been sold yet but that will change!-BIO FUEL?

If the National party don't let a commercial realease of GM canola happen for 09 it may be time for a farming community to become militant! Canola is the first hurdle in the GM story which will lead to other useful traits-FROST TOLERANCE!
