Open-ended prophecies are a recent phenomena for this group.

In the past they even built a palatial mansion, Beth Sarim, for the OT patriarchs when they got resurrected. All was not lost, though, the leader of the religion, not-really-a-judge Rutherford lived in the mansion built by the faithful followers while they waited for the big day. And waited and waited and waited and, I'm sure you get the point. Rutherford was given the property for $10. The sacrifices this guy was willing to make are astonishing.

He also advised the JW youth not to marry because, well, you guessed it, the world was about to end at any moment and they needed to teach rather than fall in love and marry.

There have been a couple of times when the leaders of this religion have allowed a belief in an imminent end of the world to grip the followers and run unchecked, so much so that some have sold everything they own. The governing body of course never leaves finger prints so it can be said later that they had nothing to do with all the excitement.

It would seem that we are entering into a new faze of excitement and why not, these are exciting times.
