They wouldn't have to sell all of it to alleviate the shortages and bring the market into balance. Probably could do it with just 5% of the US reserves alone. I don't see why the sky would fall in even if they sold more than that. Australia sold most of its gold reserves, and the economy has never performed better, so we are told.
