Gold is not higher because agents of central banks sell gold into the market at key times to give the illusion that all is well, ie if the barometer of financial health (gold) isn't racing upwards then the problems can't be that systemic.
The upside of this is, imagine a beachball being held under water. What does it do when you let go?
